I glorify low materials, as all are highly considered. The conversations in my work are an accessibly nonchalant and obsessively attended to atmosphere that challenges and confirms material reality. Meticulous decisions trace a microcosmic narrative concept, provoking a conversation between imagination, installation, drawing, sculpture, painting, and the necessity to engage. The work is an investigation of the casually fantastical and awkwardly intense.
Lauren Collins is a Portland, Mainebased interdisciplinary artist who explores the formal and conceptual connections between space and material. Lauren recently earned a Bachelors of Fine Art in Painting at Maine College of Art. She grew up in Newark, Delaware, and is currently exploring the inherent fiction of space and object as a commentary on the habitual quickness of our optic pace, and as a continuation of her interest in interpersonal situations.
She is currently applying to residencies in New England and the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, as well as to various teaching programs, as she is also pursuing minor careers in archaeology and hot-air balloon piloting, as well as a major career in studio arts and college-level teaching.
