Artist Statement
The greatest aspect about working as an animator is that the medium gives the artist a chance to show something completely new to the audience. By default, all artists are ‘creators of a universe.‘ Writers create narrative through language. Painters create images using color. Musicians invoke moments though sound. Animation allows the artist to combine these mediums and ultimately create a world where all perceptions of ‘reality’ are questioned in a way that allows the viewer to consider the world they live in. Observations made by the artist ultimately boil down to a questioning of ‘what dictates reality—’ specifically what the differences are between the invented realities within the film and our perceived realities in the physical world. Asking these questions translated through social satire allows the audience to consider these questions. As a result, it can be said that the artist conceives a perception of reality and translates it into artwork in order to give the community a new perspective on their own ‘reality.’ The style of ‘satire’ is especially critical as it provides a humorous tone in the delivery of critical observation. Critiques of our world and social identities could otherwise be received as angsty or preachy, while the use of humor provides a way of speaking that is willingly digested.

The combination of animation, satire, and the questioning the ills of social identity provides an outstandingly powerful format in which a film can acutely give the audience the opportunity to question their preconceptions of reality.
